Congratulations to Faye, Lessa, Quilt Encounter Team, members and friends who arranged, managed, took part in or supported in any way the Bedford Mystery Quilt Fundraiser 2012.

An observation

I read in the paper that the District Council of Ceduna services a population of around 4000 people. I was surprised - I don't often think about populations - i.e. never - and it prompted me to consider the number of Quilters our Guild represents with members plus affiliated groups - an estimated 3000! ...and I realised that:

1. With a few more members we could populate a whole town such as Ceduna! and
2. What a great responsibility it is for our Guild Executive to interact with all these people.

Am I alone in being surprised at this?

Colourful Response

Judy Butcher, a long time Guild member and Virtual Quilter offered an instant response to my request for colour. Judy designs using EQ and you can check out her social media sites at Guild Member Websites & Blogs. She has suggested a virtual challenge and maybe a mystery quilt that we could offer via this blog. Stay tuned...we have our thinking caps on!

I think this blog needs more photos...or more colour! Anything you want to show & tell?

Quilters Companion

QGSA Festival of Quilts 2011 has been reviewed in the current issue of Quilters Companion No. 54 page 68 and 70. In 2012 we will send any pattern source info to the magazines so that they may credit the source. This will also serve to identify the winners showing original patterns.

Moved and Arrived!

Welcome - I have created this blog - saquilters.blogspot.com and will delete (qgsa.blogspot) in due course. The new blog uses the Guild infoline instead of my personal address so will be better in the long term. Thanks to the followers who are 'really' having to 'follow' me about. I hope to see your links arriving shortly. I have had an interesting week on this learning curve and won't move anywhere else anytime soon. I feel sure I can now assist if anyone from the Teachers Forum needs help with set this up for themselves. Kay is going first!

Art to Wear, Festival of Quilts 2011

You will find the magazine Textile Fibre Forum in the Guild library. In the latest issue1 ; number 105 on page 41, there is a great photo of the Art Nouveau Butterfly by Barbara Mullan. It is a much better photo than we were able to get on judging day (we had no white background). It shows the detail of Barbara's winning entry beautifully.

Also on page 61 there is an informative article by Paul Sugden about Not-For-Profit organisations.

Colour That Cloth

Check out the QGSA website to see what can be achieved when you attend the 'Colour That Cloth' workshop with Julie Haddrick in March 2012. Don't the Colours look great like this? It's so exciting pulling out the cloth and seeing the results.

You can also download the full 2012 workshops booklet. Thanks to Kay, Shirley & Susan for their great work in bringing us this program of fun and learning across the whole year.

Thursday, 16 February 2012

Who was spotted in AP&Q Yearbook today? QGSA, Marion Quilters Circle, the Mental Health Quilts and our illustrious committee members doing their thing at Festival of Quilts 2011. Excellent.
